Opistacanthus asper is a large scorpion of about 10 cm with an outstretched tail. The species is pitch black with orange or yellow legs and stingers. It has large black pincers and can be found under the bark of trees or is active near trees at night. They hunt from crevices under the bark of trees. The scorpion is found on the eastern side of South Africa through Swaziland to and as far as Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
