The Neon Blue Acara is a stunning freshwater fish known for its vibrant blue coloration and peaceful temperament compared to other cichlids. It is hardy, adaptable, and suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. This species is active, intelligent, and can recognize its owner, making it a favorite in home aquariums.
Origin:
Native to South America, found in slow-moving rivers and streams in countries like Venezuela, Colombia, and Trinidad.
Temperature:
Prefers a temperature range of 22–28°C.
Feeding:
Omnivorous diet including high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp, and occasional plant-based foods.
Water Quality:
Thrives in a pH range of 6.5–7.5 with soft to moderately hard water (3–12 dGH).
Ideal Aquarium Size:
Requires a minimum tank size of 150 liters with hiding spots, plants, and open swimming space.
Lifespan:
Typically lives for 8–10 years with proper care.
Community Tank Compatibility:
Generally peaceful but can be territorial. Compatible with other medium-sized, non-aggressive fish such as larger tetras, peaceful cichlids, and catfish.
Breeding:
Pairs form strong bonds and breed readily in captivity. They lay eggs on flat surfaces, and both parents protect the fry. Raising fry in a separate tank increases survival rates.
