Grade A Koi are high-quality ornamental fish prized for their vibrant colors, distinct patterns, and strong genetics. These young Koi, measuring 2-3 inches, have the potential to develop striking markings as they grow. They are active, hardy fish that thrive in outdoor ponds or large aquariums with excellent water quality and proper care.
Origin:
Originally bred in Japan, Koi are a domesticated variety of the common carp (Cyprinus carpio).
Temperature:
Prefer a range of 15–25°C but can tolerate colder temperatures in outdoor ponds.
Feeding:
Omnivorous diet including high-quality Koi pellets, vegetables, and occasional protein sources like shrimp or worms.
Water Quality:
Requires a pH of 7.0–8.5 with moderate water hardness (3–12 dGH) and strong filtration.
Ideal Aquarium Size:
A pond of at least 1,000 liters is recommended, though large indoor aquariums with strong filtration can also be suitable for young Koi.
Lifespan:
Can live 20–30 years or more with proper care.
Community Tank Compatibility:
Peaceful and social; best kept with other Koi or large, non-aggressive fish in spacious environments.
Breeding:
Breeding typically occurs in ponds during spring and summer. Provide spawning mats or plants for eggs. Adults should be separated after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs.
