The Porcellio scaber "Lava" is a striking color morph of the common woodlouse species, known for its fiery red, orange, and black coloration resembling molten lava. This terrestrial isopod is popular among hobbyists for its unique appearance and easy care requirements. Like other Porcellio scaber, they are hardy and adaptable, making them a great choice for beginners in the isopod-keeping hobby. Their role in nature involves breaking down organic matter and enriching the soil, contributing to a healthy ecosystem.

Origin:
The "Lava" morph originates from selective breeding in captivity, where individuals with red and orange tones were bred to enhance their vivid coloration. While Porcellio scaber is widespread in Europe, the "Lava" morph itself is a cultivated variant rather than a naturally occurring wild population.

Housing:
A suitable habitat includes a well-ventilated container with a substrate mix of soil, leaf litter, and decaying wood. Provide both moist and drier areas to mimic natural conditions. Hiding places such as bark, moss, and cork pieces are essential for their well-being.

Feeding:
These isopods are detritivores, thriving on decaying plant matter, leaf litter, rotting wood, and occasional protein sources like fish flakes or dried shrimp.

Behaviour and Personality:
Porcellio scaber "Lava" is active and curious, often seen exploring their environment. They can be skittish but will become more visible once acclimated to their habitat.
