The Firemouth Cichlid is named after the bright red coloration that males display on the lower half of their face, which they use to intimidate rivals and attract mates. Females are less colorful but still quite striking with their silver-grey bodies and black markings. This fish is generally hardy and easy to care for, making it a great choice for beginner aquarists.

A balanced diet for this fish should include a mix of high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. It is important to provide a varied diet to ensure that they receive all the necessary nutrients to maintain good health and vibrant colors.
