Carex riparia, commonly known as Greater Pond Sedge, is a robust, clump-forming perennial grass-like plant ideal for wetland areas, pond margins, and damp meadows. With its long, arching, bright green leaves and distinctive brown flower spikes, it provides excellent habitat and shelter for wildlife. This fast-growing sedge is highly effective in erosion control and water purification, making it a valuable choice for naturalistic planting schemes. Carex riparia thrives in consistently moist to waterlogged soils, tolerating both sun and partial shade, and is an excellent option for stabilizing banks and enhancing biodiversity in aquatic landscapes.
