Athyrium niponicum var. pictum, commonly known as Japanese Painted Fern, is a stunning fern species that originated in Japan. The plant is known for its striking silver-grey foliage with maroon highlights, which adds a splash of colour to shady corners of the garden. In the summer months, it produces spores on the undersides of the fronds, adding to its unique appearance. This fern is a slow-growing, clump-forming plant that prefers moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade.
