Amano Shrimp, scientifically known as Caridina multidentata or Caridina japonica, are highly regarded and beneficial freshwater shrimp species in the aquarium hobby. Originally from Japan, these shrimp are appreciated for their algae-eating prowess and their peaceful and social nature. Amano Shrimp are excellent additions to planted aquariums, where they help keep algae growth in check and contribute to the overall health of the aquatic ecosystem.

Origin: Amano Shrimp are native to Japan.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Amano Shrimp is between 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F).

Water Quality: They thrive in stable water conditions with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5 and moderate water hardness.

Aquarium Size: A tank of at least 10 gallons is suitable for keeping a group of Amano Shrimp. They are social and can be kept in groups without territorial issues. The tank should have plenty of hiding spots, plants, and surfaces for algae growth.

Feeding: Amano Shrimp are primarily algae eaters and are highly effective at consuming different types of algae in the aquarium. However, they will also accept high-quality sinking pellets or wafers. Providing a varied diet with occasional blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach is beneficial.

Lifespan: With proper care, Amano Shrimp typically live for about 2 to 3 years in captivity.

Behavior and Personality: These shrimp are known for their peaceful and social nature. They are excellent tankmates for other non-aggressive fish and shrimp species. Amano Shrimp are constantly on the lookout for algae to graze on, and they are active and visible in the aquarium during the day.
