Arctic Hognose Snakes are a fascinating and unique species of snake that originate from northern regions of North America. They are known for their distinct upturned snouts and their ability to play dead when threatened. These snakes are typically small in size, with males reaching up to 2 feet in length and females reaching up to 3 feet. They come in a range of colors, from light tan to dark brown. Arctic Hognose Snakes are a cold-blooded species and require specific environmental conditions to thrive.

Origin: Arctic Hognose Snakes are native to the northern regions of North America, specifically Alaska and Canada.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Arctic Hognose Snakes is between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with a basking spot around 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Housing: Arctic Hognose Snakes require an enclosure that is at least 20 gallons in size for a single snake, with a secure lid to prevent escape. The enclosure should be equipped with a heat lamp or under-tank heating pad to maintain the proper temperature gradient. A substrate of aspen bedding or coconut fiber can be used, and hiding spots such as logs or caves should be provided.

Feeding: Arctic Hognose Snakes are primarily carnivorous and require a diet of rodents such as mice or rats. Juvenile snakes can be fed once a week, while adult snakes can be fed every two weeks.

Lifespan: The average lifespan of an Arctic Hognose Snake in captivity is around 15 years, with some individuals living up to 20 years with proper care.

Behavior and Personality: Arctic Hognose Snakes are known for their unique behavior, including their ability to play dead when threatened. They are generally considered a docile species, but may hiss or puff up when feeling threatened. They are solitary animals and should be housed individually.
