The Brazilian Rock Tarantula, scientifically known as Guyruita cerrado, is a unique and fascinating species within the tarantula community. This species is native to Brazil, particularly known for its habitat in cerrado regions, which are tropical savannas. The Brazilian Rock Tarantula is characterized by its robust and compact body, exhibiting a coloration that helps it blend into its natural environment. It belongs to the 'New World' group of tarantulas, which are typically known for their more docile temperament and less potent venom compared to 'Old World' species.

Origin:

Guyruita cerrado is endemic to the Cerrado regions of Brazil. These areas are characterized by their unique savanna ecosystems, with a mix of forest and grassland habitats.

Temperature:

The ideal temperature range for the Brazilian Rock Tarantula is between 70-85°F (21-29°C), with moderate to low humidity levels. This mimics the warm and somewhat dry conditions of their natural habitat.

Housing:

A terrarium for a Brazilian Rock Tarantula should include a substrate that allows for some burrowing, along with elements that mimic a rocky and semi-arid environment. Provide hiding places and ensure the enclosure has adequate ventilation but is secure to prevent escapes.

Feeding:

Their diet in captivity typically consists of a variety of insects, such as crickets, roaches, and occasionally worms. The feeding frequency should be adjusted based on the tarantula's age and size.

Lifespan:

In captivity, the lifespan of a Brazilian Rock Tarantula can vary, but many can live for several years, with females generally living longer than males.

Behavior and Personality:

Guyruita cerrado is known for its reclusive nature. They may be less prone to aggression compared to some other tarantula species, but they can still display defensive behaviors if threatened. As with most tarantulas, handling should be minimal to avoid stress to the animal.
