The Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantula, also known as Brachypelma vagans, is a popular species of tarantula kept as a pet by enthusiasts. It is known for its striking appearance, with a dark brown or black body and distinctive red hairs on its abdomen. This tarantula is relatively easy to care for and is a great option for beginners who are interested in keeping tarantulas.

Origin: The Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantula is native to Mexico, specifically in the states of Guerrero and Oaxaca.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for this species is between 24°C and 28°C.

Housing: The Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantula requires an enclosure that is at least 2-3 times the leg span of the spider. The enclosure should be well-ventilated, escape-proof, and should have a secure lid. It is important to provide hiding places, such as cork bark or hollow logs, for the tarantula to retreat to. A substrate of peat moss or coconut fiber is recommended, as well as a shallow water dish for drinking.

Feeding: Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantulas are carnivorous and primarily feed on insects such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms. Adult tarantulas should be fed 1-2 times a week, while juveniles can be fed more frequently.

Lifespan: The lifespan of the Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantula is typically around 15-20 years in captivity, although some individuals have been known to live longer.

Behavior and Personality: Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantulas are generally calm and docile, making them great pets for beginners. They are known for their unique defensive behavior of rubbing their hind legs against their abdomen, releasing a cloud of irritating hairs. These hairs can cause irritation to human skin and eyes, so it is important to handle them with care.
