The Madagascar Rainbowfish, scientifically known as Bedotia geayi, is a strikingly beautiful and relatively rare freshwater fish native to the clear, flowing waters of Madagascar. This species is part of the Bedotiidae family and is highly sought after in the aquarium hobby for its iridescent colors and lively behavior. Males typically display more vibrant colors than females, with body hues that can shift between blue, green, and red under different lighting conditions, complemented by long, flowing fins that add to their allure.

Origin:
As its name suggests, the Madagascar Rainbowfish is endemic to Madagascar, specifically to the island's eastern rivers and streams. Its natural habitat is characterized by clear, well-oxygenated water with a moderate to fast flow.

Temperature:
The ideal temperature range for Madagascar Rainbowfish is between 22°C to 26°C (72°F to 79°F). This range closely mimics their natural tropical environment and helps maintain their health and vitality.

Water Quality:
This species thrives in water with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5 and prefers soft to moderately hard water. Regular water changes and maintenance are essential to keep the water parameters within these ranges and ensure a healthy environment for the fish.

Aquarium Size:
Madagascar Rainbowfish require a spacious aquarium to accommodate their active swimming habits. A minimum tank size of 150 liters (40 gallons) is recommended for a small group. These fish do best in tanks that mimic their natural habitat, with plenty of plants and space for swimming.

Feeding:
They are omnivores with a preference for live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. High-quality flake or pellet food can also be part of their diet to ensure they receive all the necessary nutrients.

Lifespan:
With proper care, Madagascar Rainbowfish can live for 5 to 8 years in captivity. Their lifespan can be maximized by maintaining optimal tank conditions and providing a balanced diet.

Behavior and Personality:
Madagascar Rainbowfish are known for their peaceful temperament and gregarious nature. They are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 5 to 6 individuals to promote natural behavior and reduce stress. They are generally good community fish and can coexist with other peaceful species of similar size.
