The Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnow (Tanichthys albonubes) is a captivating and resilient small freshwater fish, ideal for both beginners and experienced aquarists. Its striking golden coloration, combined with the peaceful nature, makes it a favorite among fish enthusiasts. This species is known for its hardiness and adaptability, thriving in a variety of water conditions. Although they are small, typically reaching about 4 cm in length, their vibrant hues and active swimming patterns make them quite noticeable in a community tank. These minnows enjoy schooling and exhibit fascinating social behaviors when kept in groups.
Origin:
The Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnow is native to the White Cloud Mountains of China. However, due to environmental changes and overfishing, it is now considered nearly extinct in its natural habitat.
Temperature:
The ideal temperature for these minnows is between 18°C and 22°C.
Water Quality:
They prefer a pH range of 6.0 to 8.0 and are tolerant of a wide range of water hardness, from soft to moderately hard.
Aquarium Size:
A minimum tank size of 40 liters is recommended for a small school of Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnows. These active swimmers need space to roam and thrive best in tanks with ample swimming areas and some plant cover.
Feeding:
Their diet should include a variety of foods such as small, high-quality flake foods, frozen or live daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. They are not picky eaters but require a balanced diet for optimal health.
Lifespan:
In a well-maintained aquarium, the Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnow can live for about 5 to 7 years.
Community Tank Compatibility:
These minnows are peaceful and can be housed with other small, non-aggressive fish. They do well in a community tank setting, provided their tank mates have similar water requirements and are not large enough to consider them prey.
Breeding:
Breeding Gold White Cloud Mountain Minnows is relatively easy. They scatter their eggs among fine-leaved plants. The parents do not exhibit parental care, so it is advisable to remove the adults after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs.
