Origin: The Goliath Birdeater, or Theraphosa blondi, hails from the lush rainforests of South America, with a habitat spanning across countries such as Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana.
Temperature: This species thrives in a warm and humid environment, with an ideal temperature range of around 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit (24-29 degrees Celsius). Maintaining this temperature is essential for the well-being of these tarantulas.
Housing: Keeping a Goliath Birdeater requires a spacious enclosure with plenty of hiding spots and a substrate that retains moisture, like coconut fiber or peat moss. The enclosure should also maintain high humidity levels of around 70-80%. Proper ventilation is crucial to prevent mold growth. Providing a secure lid is essential, as these spiders are known for their impressive strength and climbing abilities.
Feeding: In captivity, the Goliath Birdeater can be fed a diet consisting of crickets, roaches, mealworms, and occasional small rodents. They are opportunistic feeders and should be offered prey items approximately once a week. It's crucial to remove any uneaten prey to avoid stress or injury to the tarantula.
