The Peru Purple Pink Toe Tarantula, scientifically known as Avicularia spec. Peru purple, is a captivating arachnid species native to the tropical rainforests of Peru. This stunning tarantula is named for its distinctive vibrant purple and pink coloration on its legs and carapace, making it a favorite among tarantula enthusiasts. It is a medium-sized tarantula, typically reaching a leg span of 5 to 6 inches when fully grown.

Origin: This species hails from the lush and biodiverse regions of Peru.

Temperature: To ensure the well-being of the Peru Purple Pink Toe Tarantula, it is essential to maintain an ideal temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C) within its enclosure.

Housing: Proper housing is crucial for these tarantulas. A glass terrarium with good ventilation and secure locks to prevent escapes is recommended. Substrate like coconut coir or peat moss should be provided for burrowing, and branches or artificial plants can be added for climbing. Maintain humidity levels between 65-75%, and provide a hide or shelter for the tarantula to retreat to when it feels stressed.

Feeding: These tarantulas are carnivorous and primarily feed on insects. Offer a varied diet of appropriately sized prey, such as crickets, roaches, and occasionally small mice. Ensure the prey is not larger than the tarantula's body. Feeding frequency varies with age, but adults can be fed 2-3 times a month.

Lifespan: The Peru Purple Pink Toe Tarantula has a relatively long lifespan for a tarantula, with females living up to 10-15 years or more in captivity if well-cared for. Males have a shorter lifespan, typically around 4-6 years. The females mature at a slower rate and live longer than their male counterparts.

Behavior and Personality: Known for their arboreal nature, these tarantulas are often found perched on branches or hidden in tree hollows in the wild. They are generally docile and can be handled with care, but it's essential to avoid unnecessary stress. They may flick urticating hairs if agitated, which can irritate the skin and eyes, so handling should be limited. They are fascinating to observe as they display unique web-building behaviors and active hunting.
