The Leopard Danio, scientifically named Danio rerio var. 'frankei', is a popular and lively fish in the aquarium trade, known for its striking pattern and playful nature. This variant of the Zebrafish is characterized by a light, yellowish-gold body with an irregular pattern of dark spots and stripes, resembling a leopard's coat, hence the name. They are small, typically reaching a length of about 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches). Leopard Danios are renowned for their hardiness, ease of care, and the speed at which they dart around in the aquarium, making them a favorite among both novice and experienced aquarists.

Origin: Leopard Danios are a selectively bred variety of the wild-type Danio rerio, which is native to South Asia, particularly in regions spanning India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. They inhabit various freshwater environments, including streams, ponds, and rice paddies.

Temperature: The ideal temperature range for Leopard Danios is between 18°C and 24°C (64°F to 75°F).

Water Quality: They are adaptable to a wide range of water conditions but prefer a pH range of 6.0 to 8.0, with soft to moderately hard water.

Aquarium Size: A minimum tank size of 40 liters is recommended for a small group of Leopard Danios. They are active swimmers and thrive in groups, so keeping them in schools of at least six will promote natural behavior and reduce stress.

Feeding: Leopard Danios are omnivorous. Their diet should include high-quality flake food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms for variety.

Lifespan: In a well-maintained aquarium, they can live for about 3-5 years.

Behavior and Personality: Leopard Danios are energetic, social, and playful. They are best kept in groups where they exhibit schooling behavior. They are non-aggressive and can be kept with a variety of other peaceful community fish.
