The Asian House Gecko, scientifically known as Hemidactylus frenatus, is a small lizard species commonly found in various parts of Asia and other tropical regions worldwide. These geckos are known for their distinctive appearance and adaptable nature.

Origin: The Asian House Gecko is native to Southeast Asia, but it has become widespread in tropical and subtropical regions around the world due to human activity and transportation.

Temperature: Asian House Geckos thrive in warm temperatures, with an ideal range between 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F). Maintaining these temperatures in their habitat is essential for their health and activity.

Water Quality: As terrestrial reptiles, Asian House Geckos do not have specific water quality requirements like aquatic species. They do not need access to standing water for swimming, but it's important to provide them with a shallow water dish for drinking. The water in the dish should be clean and replaced regularly. There is no specific pH or water hardness requirement for these geckos in the context of their habitat.

Enclosure Size: To keep Asian House Geckos, it's recommended to have an enclosure with dimensions of at least 45cm x 30cm x 30cm (length x width x height) to provide adequate space for their activity. A larger enclosure is beneficial if you plan to keep multiple geckos together. The enclosure should have secure lids or screens to prevent escapes, as these geckos are skilled climbers.

Feeding: Asian House Geckos are insectivores, and their diet primarily consists of small insects such as crickets, flies, and moths. It's important to provide a varied diet to ensure they receive essential nutrients. Dusting their prey with calcium powder is recommended to maintain their calcium levels. These geckos are known to be opportunistic feeders and will actively hunt for insects during the night.

Lifespan: In captivity, Asian House Geckos typically have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years when provided with proper care. Factors that contribute to their longevity include a suitable habitat, a balanced diet, and a stress-free environment.

Behavior and Personality: Asian House Geckos are nocturnal creatures, meaning they are most active during the night. They are excellent climbers and can be frequently seen on walls and ceilings, thanks to their adhesive toe pads. While they are generally solitary, multiple geckos can be kept together in a spacious enclosure. These geckos are known for their chirping or clicking vocalizations, which are often heard during the breeding season or when they communicate with other geckos.
