The Red Tail Botia Loach, also known as the Redtail Botia or Skunk Loach (Yasuhikotakia modesta), is a striking and active freshwater fish, popular in the aquarium hobby for its unique appearance and behavior. Native to Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand and Malaysia, this species is characterized by its vibrant red tail and a contrasting body, typically ranging from yellow to brown, with a distinctive black stripe running from the head to the tail, resembling a skunk's pattern.

Origin:
Red Tail Botia Loaches are found in rivers and streams of Southeast Asia, where they inhabit environments with moderate flow and plenty of hiding spots.

Temperature:
The ideal temperature range for Red Tail Botia Loaches is between 24°C and 30°C. They thrive in warm, tropical water conditions.

Water Quality:
These loaches prefer a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and do best in soft to moderately hard water. Consistent water parameters and cleanliness are important for their health.

Aquarium Size:
A minimum tank size of 150 liters is recommended for Red Tail Botia Loaches. They are social and active fish, requiring ample space to swim and explore, as well as to accommodate a small group.

Feeding:
Red Tail Botia Loaches are omnivorous and will accept a variety of foods, including sinking pellets, algae wafers, frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, as well as occasional vegetables.

Lifespan:
In a well-maintained aquarium, Red Tail Botia Loaches can live for about 5 to 8 years.

Community Tank Compatibility:
They are generally peaceful but can be boisterous, especially during feeding times. Red Tail Botia Loaches do well in a community tank with other similarly sized, active fish but may outcompete shy or slow-moving species for food.

Breeding:
Breeding Red Tail Botia Loaches in captivity is relatively rare and can be challenging. It usually requires specific water conditions and a carefully managed environment.

We don't ship live animals. You can order online and choose click and collect, and we will hold it for you.
