Assorted Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare): Assorted Angelfish, also known as Pterophyllum scalare, are stunning freshwater fish prized for their graceful appearance and distinctive finnage. These fish are known for their elegant, triangular bodies, long trailing fins, and vibrant coloration, making them a popular choice among aquarium enthusiasts. Their natural beauty and tranquil demeanor make them a captivating addition to any well-maintained aquarium.
Origin: Native to the Amazon River basin in South America, Assorted Angelfish can be found in slow-moving or still waters, particularly in flooded forests, where they inhabit areas with submerged vegetation and tree roots.
Temperature: Ideally, Assorted Angelfish thrive in water temperatures ranging from 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C). Maintaining the correct temperature is crucial for their well-being and overall health.
Water Quality: These angelfish prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions, with a pH range between 6.0 and 7.5. They are also sensitive to water hardness and thrive in relatively soft to moderately hard water.
Aquarium Size: For keeping Assorted Angelfish, it's recommended to have an aquarium with a minimum capacity of 20 gallons (75 liters) for a small group of fish. A larger tank provides more swimming space and stability in water parameters, which is especially important if you plan to keep them with other fish.
Feeding: Assorted Angelfish are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. They will readily accept high-quality flake, pellet, or granule food, but their diet should also include live or frozen options like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Offering a mix of these foods helps maintain their health and coloration.
Lifespan: When well cared for, Assorted Angelfish can live for up to 10 years or more in captivity. Proper nutrition, suitable water conditions, and a stress-free environment contribute to their longevity.
Behavior and Personality: These angelfish are generally peaceful but can become territorial during breeding. They are best kept in pairs or groups to reduce aggression. Assorted Angelfish are known for their slow, deliberate swimming and graceful movements, which add an element of elegance to any aquarium. They are also known to be good parents, guarding their eggs and fry diligently.
